[Availability](https://support.publitas.com/publishing-publications?hsLang=en#availability) # Publishing private publications To publish private publications you assign the *Unlisted* status before sharing the link to the publication with your selected audience. In order to share publications online you can select either the *Public* status or the *Unlisted* status. The main difference between these two states is that unlisted publications won't be indexed by search engines and they also won't appear via the [Group URL](https://support.publitas.com/sharing-a-link-that-loads-the-latest-publication-automatically?hsLang=en). Below are a few helpful tips to use the Unlisted status effectively. ### Avoid the Public status If you don't want your publications to be found via search engines, avoid assigning the *Public* status to your publications. If a publication is indexed by Google, for example, it may remain available there even after switching the Online status to *Unlisted*. If your publications are found via Google and you wish to undo this, please contact us at  [support@publitas.com](mailto:support@publitas.com). ### Use an unpredictable URL structure If all your publications use a similar link structure, like view.publitas.com/mystore/week-33-2020, it is not difficult to predict what the link for next week's catalog will be. Even though search engines won't pick up on unlisted publications, other people or platforms might. If you share the unlisted publication with a limited audience, be sure to [update the publication name in the URL](https://support.publitas.com/updating-the-publication-name-in-the-url?hsLang=en) to something that will be more difficult to guess. ### Use password protection If you wish to share your publication with the stakeholders before making it public, or if you want to preview the publication on a mobile device before go-live, we recommend to use the *Unlisted* status in combination with [password protection](https://support.publitas.com/protecting-publications-with-a-password?hsLang=en). Search engines won't be able to index password protected publications either, however, by applying the *Unlisted* status as well the publication will not appear in the [Group URL](https://support.publitas.com/sharing-a-link-that-loads-the-latest-publication-automatically?hsLang=en) if this is used on any of your online channels. -
